2019 League Format Change

Updated Sunday January 13, 2019 by Joshua Ream.

BBA Families,

As we open registrations the Board wants to inform you of a change we are going to make to the League levels after several discussions over the last few years.

In order to better serve our younger age groups we are going to restructure the Rookie and Minor Leagues and introduce an Instructional Level as well.  The Instructional Level will now serve 5 and 6 year olds and will be Coach or Machine pitch, similar to what has been previously done in Rookie League.  The Rookie League will now be for 7 and 8 year olds and focus on introducting more competitive baseball with kids doing all the pitching.  The Minor League will then operate as it always has, but will be only for our 9 and 10 year old players (any players that were 7 in Minors last season will be placed back on their Minor teams as 8 year olds the first year of transition).

We are doing this to help provide more opportunities (playing time, pitching innings, key position time, etc.) for our 8 year olds to develop without the pressure of performing against 10 year olds.  We are also hoping this gives 10 year olds increased levels of competition to ensure better and more sustained development against players more their own skill and age level.

This adjustment also provides us the opportunity to start working with the 5 year old age group, so that we can start better tailoring an experience for their needs and those of the 6 yeard olds in the League.  We believe all of these adjustments will provide a more fluid and consistent experience for players throughout the program as they move through the program.

These are but a few of the key points that were discussed in making this change.  We are sure adjustments will have to be made in the future and full rules for the levels will be released in the coming months, but we wanted to release a snapshot, so that families had an idea of what was going on and the reason for it.

Thank you for your continued pariticpation in Boys Baseball of Aurora and please contact us if you have any questions.
